Poetry Shmoetry - a poem.,
This review is from: American Water (Audio CD)
How you like my poetry gang? Well OK, I'm as good a poet as a reviewer but this is straight from the heart - American Water is an album you should find impossible not to love.
Straight from the first line - "In 1988 I was hospitalized (sic) for approaching perfection." (In my my opinion the best since the opening of Kinky Afro) to the last, Mr Berman and chums will have your ears locked in a magical aural vice, albeit a fairly relaxing one. I agree partly with the previous reviewer insofar as some of the lyrics do seem to be pretty impenetrable - although they never reach the heights of ridicularity of Malkmus in his pavement era days - but they are more than outweighed by some gorgeous wordsmithery and poignant observations elsewhere.
For my money, Random Rules, People, We Are Real and The Wild Kindness are the killer tunes on this album with plenty of decent ones around them. This is not my favourite album by the Jews - that being Natural Bridge but I love them all like the individual members of my flying army of monkeys and cannot wait for the new album - slated to be realeased in July 05 ish. I'm also hot for Malkmus's effort next month.
