Oh, those mad 60s,
This review is from: Mad Men - Seasons 1-4 [DVD] (DVD)
When I heard about a show detailing what it was like living in the 60s, I immediately groaned and said "What? Not more hippy stuff". Thankfully, that cliché is never used in Mad Men. The protagonists are on the other side of the fence, representing the intricate corporations of America. The characters are impeccably dressed, clean cut, and all of them chain smoke like there's no tomorrow. Style over substance, you ask? Think again. The situations in Mad Men are as cool as they are real, showing us the dark underbelly of the fabulous 60s.
The show revolves around Don Draper, an ad-man and a genius with words, working at Sterling Cooper, one of the most prestigious ad agencies in Manhattan. Of course, the show lets us in on the private lives of the other characters, each fascinating and disturbing in their own way; among them is Pete Campbell, the young schemer, and Peggy Olsen, whose quick rise to the top is awe-inspiring.
This show is gold. I can't get enough of it.
