This review is from: Homecoming (Hardcover)Although I also enjoyed Cathy Kelly's two previous books very much, I must admit that this one is the best she has written since those first blockbusters which made her a star almost overnight.
In "Homecoming" she is back to describing several women whose lives already are or are about to become intertwined. The only difference is that these are women of different ages and with very different lives.
We meet 84 year old retired psychoanalyst Eleanor from New York, who is visiting her home country Ireland searching for inner peace after having lost her husband of fifty years. 24 year old Megan, up and coming actress, is also returning to Ireland after a scandalous love affair with a much older world famous movie star. Rae, 54 year old and happily married to Will, has a youth and a secret still troubling her, and school teacher Connie, about to turn 40, is yearning for love and a family she has given up hope of ever getting. The book tells their stories, how they all meet, become friends and part of each other's search for peace and happiness.
Superbly light and entertaining reading, with lots of warmth and wisdom and not the least Kelly's wonderful sense of humour.
I said it when I reviewed her last book, and can only emphasize it even more - Cathy Kelly has grown to become one of Ireland's very best authors today. A must for her fans and highly recommended to new readers.
