This review is from: Market Led (Audio CD)Back at the dawning of the MIDI revolution I used to have a primitive studio computer setup that would, from time to time, completely trash my compositions, turning them into something utterly alien. A great deal of 'Market Led' reminds my of those strange noises and also makes me curse myself for having not kept the 'music' that my computer had composed for me.
I'll be honest, I LOVED Komputer's first album ('World of Tomorrow') and bought 'Market Led' without having heard any of it. The first time I played it I thought it was one of the worst albums I had ever heard but, just before I got ready to try to sell it...... there was SOMETHING that made me listen again. Second hearing made me think that it was maybe a bit..... well .....interesting. Third listen had me utterly hooked.
This album borders on disturbing. Nothing is what you'd expect. Sometime of the noises sound as if digital clipping is occurring - not normally a pleasant experience - yet it sounds right. Some of the 'drum' sounds are almost pure white noise - should be mightily unpleasant but, no. It works.
While most of today's music seems to be simpering boys bands, wailing girl groups and rap 'artists' bellowing and grunting like rutting stags, here we have an album of originality and adventure. Try it.
Kongratulations (sorry - I resisted that on a few occasions) to Komputer; one of my favourite albums.
