This review is from: SPQR I: KINGS GAMBIT (Paperback)
This is the first book I've read by this author. I struggled with a slow start, and was initially confused by a lack of sense of direction, but that's ok - we're all different after all! New author, new style to be learned/explored etc etc.
But sadly the whole experience has been made goodness knows how much worse by extremely poor proof-reading. The numerous typos and wrong words (e.g 'though' instead of 'thought') encountered suggest a software-only proof-reading, which must have been using a word database that includes all variant spellings.....so presumably it will irritate grammatically sensitised nasal passages on both sides of the Atlantic.
The end result? I have yet to finish the work as I just can't summon enough enthusiasm to pick it up again. I read mostly for pleasure or for fun, and this was just too much hard work.
To quote that well-known authority Captain Hook...."poor show".
If i was the author I think I'd be more than a bit miffed.
A pity that such poor quality control has let down what had appeared to be a good quality product.
