Man in the Holocene,
This review is from: Man in the Holocene (Swiss Literature) (Paperback)
A beautifully written book which charts the frustrating and frightening decent into old age of Geiser, a retired gentleman, whilst temporarily stranded in his lonely Alpine home by torrential rain and landslides. As the landscape around him crumbles, so too do Geiser's mental and physical powers. The narrative is poignant, informative and, in places, gently humorous.
The book borders on philosophy as it juxtaposes the individual man, Geiser, with mankind in general and places them within the context of the ever-changing, yet timeless, landscape.
A lovely, thought-provoking read!
