This review is from: Premier Hits: The Best of Gary Numan (Audio CD)
Gary Numan is the reason for almost all electronic-based music around today, and listening to this CD it is easy to see why.
From the pure pop of "Cars" and "We are Glass" to darker moments such as "Down in the Park", this collection chows the range of Gary's work.
The songs do vary quite dramatically in style, but the track listing is structured to keep similar tracks together - hit random and you may end up with a bit of a mess. But this just goes to show one of Numan's successes - the ability to constantly change and still produce quality music.

a most unsubstantiated opinion. Almost all electro...Newman? I think you may have overlooked the genre's origins from Krautrock.

Dennis Scotchbrook, says:
Surely Numan's influence extended beyond electronic music, anyway. What about his impact upon country music, for example? Townes van Zandt was a big Numanoid, and it's widely accepted that Numan's work is the greatest single influence on the development of Nashville-based music since Jimmie Rodgers or at least Hank Williams. I also hear echoes of Gary's work in places as disparate as the rhetoric of Ed Miliband and the Chuck Berry reimaginings of the criminally underrated Steve Brookstein.
