This review is from: The Nowhere Men (Kindle Edition)
Michael Calvin introduces us to a bewildering array of men of a certain age who clock up prodigious mileage on the motorways
of Britain and beyond in the search for footballing talent. These are the scouts who scour the professional ranks, non-league, park pitches and school playing fields in the search for the next Lionel Messi or Steven Gerrard. The money is terrible, the job security non-existent and yet they are out there season after season. And if they spot a gem there is the whole business of greedy big clubs stealing the prize from under their nose, parents to deal with or maybe your club doesn't have the money or imagination to follow through.
An interesting tale but I came away thinking it would have been more compelling to concentrate on two or three of the characters in a long magazine article rather than the endless repetition of essentially the same story told by so many different versions of this singular breed.
