Art if life and beauty,
This review is from: The Goldfinch (Hardcover)
What a book. I cannot imagine picking up another book to read in the near future. This has been such an experience that as I have come to the end of it I now feel bereft. How can some readers criticise some of the descriptive prose in this book - have they never been to a museum - do they not realise how many rooms there are for example. Also the descriptive length of the work involved in restoring antiques is necessary to help uninitiated readers into knowing the love and experience and skill needed to restore furniture. The descriptive style of writing enhanced this book. Without it we would have had just an adventure story - not an unforgettable book.
