Walking the mean streets of Scotland,

This review is from: The Reluctant Detective (The Reluctant Detective Mysteries Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
The author is walking in the footsteps of Raymond Chandler - which is a pretty good trail for authors to follow. In this case the "mean streets" are those of the city of Glasgow - and the classier the street, the meaner the inhabitants! Both this and its successor, "The Good Girl", set with equal precision in the ancient cathedral and university town of St Andrews, offer the reader a well-plotted story, with close observations of human nature. Enjoy!
