When I started reading this novel, it began like most first of the series novels. You meet the main character(s). In this case Rebus. You meet other mainish characters, find out their relationships and Rebus' flaws. Once the plot is getting going the book isn't bad, it kept me reading. Not as much as some other crime novels I've read but I wasn't bored. SPOILER ALERT!............ If the police knew that the girls all had in common the library.... how come Anderson doesn't decide to tell them that he KNOWS underneath the library are old prison cells (durrrr where girls could be trapped by any chance?) and that there are passageways from the library that go underneath the city (durrrr how he keeps a low profile). It just irritates me how he suddenly remembers once a load of the girls have died and once theyve finally found the murderer. Maybe it's petty but it's annoying. Nonetheless, I will read the next book and then decide whether I will read the whole series. On another note, I love the new cover artwork and the cover material. Have taken this book on many car rides, walks, trains etc and still looks brand new.
