Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Dead Man Running: From Alcohol to Atacama (Paperback)
I bought this book based on the positive reviews and the subject matter. Much as I wanted to enjoy the book, I simply didn't. Firstly, the content is full of errors, not in an endearing way as the author suggests early in the book but in a way that reflects poor writing and poor proofreading. The actual story I found to be dull and depressing. It struck me that the author has actually forgotten many details about his childhood (probably through over use of drink and drugs) and so just repeated some basic elements over and over again (listening to the clock tick, being thrashed etc.). I guess it's good to be made aware that some people have endured VERY tough lives but this just wasn't a good read. The elements that related to the Atacama race were enjoyable but this didn't make up for what was overall a poorly written and depressing book. "It'll be reet" - No, it wasn't.

Whilst I appreciate everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I do feel that this is overly critical, and as the wise Indians say; "Do not judge a man until you have walked a mile in his moccassins". I prefer to think like this and applaud people like Billy for overcoming challenges many of us could not bear.
Blessings to you all xxxx
