Why so expensive ?,
This review is from: SwissGold Coffee Filter - one cup, reusable - KF300
I have given 5 stars for this product as i have been using them for years but i don't understand why they have become so expensive. I used to buy these from Whittards, who incidentally don't stock them any more, for about GBP 7.00 each. Considering that you would not only buy one filter (i have several which i use regularly) they are too expensive now.

Yes they used to be much cheaper, but prices of these have gone up over the last 7 years or so primarily due to a rise in the price of gold, so the material costs have gone up significantly. They still represent excellent value however since they last for years.

First of all the filter mesh is not made out of gold - its gold plated - major difference. The rest of the construction is in HD Plastic of which prices have been relatively stable. I still maintain that there is no way that the price of nearly GBP 19- is justified.
I have recently bought similar filters from the US, different make but in my opinion much better performance,at less than half your price.

Yes it would be a lot more expensive if was a solid gold mesh. I was merely trying to answer your question as to why they've increased so much, and that's the main reason we've been given. Other reasons include inflation and weakening of the pound against the Swiss Franc.
