I've purchased 2 of these camera's for my car, with so so many incidents on our roads with people causing accidents, sometimes deliberately for insurance scams figured it was time I fitted a camera to my car, especially as I've just taken delivery of a 28K new car. (my main new toy at the moment)
I chose this particular camera mainly due to the good reviews it's had, I don't think you will find the perfect camera, but this one comes quite close, this is a very small camera, but still has a 1.5" LCD screen, and though not really necessary on a car camera, it does make changing settings easier to change, and you can adjust the positioning much easier too, as it can be a bit of guesswork on camera's with no screen.
This is one of the smallest car camera's currentl available, but it's video quality is really superb, and much better than some other camera's I've seen, but the advantage of this one is because it's so small it can be hidden discretely up behind your rear view mirror out of the way.
The mounting base is separate, it has 4 sprung gold plated contacts in the base which connects with camera when it's clipped onto the base, what this means of course is that once the base has been mounted to your windsreen, the camera can easily be removed from the car without having to diconnect any cables as the usb power socket is in the base too, though the camera itself also has a usb socket allowing you to charge off the car or for use with your computer, it also has a mini HDMI socket for connecting to TV's.
It's had a couple of minor niggles on the ealier versions but later and current versions of the firmware seem to have sorted them out. I've had no problems at all, I just leave them running and forget about them, but it's reasuring knowing I have video footage if anything unfortunate were to happen while driving.
I should mention, these come with a GPS module which is built into the base, though you can also buy it without the GPS. The GPS stores co-ordinate logs of your journey, including date/time and your own speed, though most people turn this off...lol Most of the options can be enabled or disabled, so it shows and records the information you want. When the video's are played back on your computer not only can you see the video of your journey but you can also see your progress on google map as well similar to a satnav. The GPS itself can also be enabled or disable... your choice.
Most people will want to know how well it performs, well I can honestly say I was blown away by the quality of the video replays, it really is very good, remember these are full HD, it has a very good wide angle 135 degree lens which is essential on car camera's, as you really need it to see everything you see and more.
It comes with long usb lead that plugs into your cars lighter socket, and as long as your power socket is only live when the ignition is on, it will start recording as soon as you switch on the ignition, and continously record until the ignition is switched off again, which is what you want, you dont really want the hassle of having to switch it on and off yourself. You want something you can install and just forget about, I should mention it uses a micro-SD card but the camera does not stop when it's full, depending on the size of the card (upto 32gb) you will always have the last few hrs of your journey recorded, larger card will hold several hours of video, it recycles the card so when it detects the card is a certain percentage full it deletes the oldest files meaning you always have the last few hours of your journey recorded.
It's recommended when buying micro-SD card for this camera that you use class 6 or class 4 cards it still records HD video fine to these cards, many users will automatically buy the fastest class 10 cards, (I did myself) and in fairness I've had no trouble with mine, but I know a few users on the forums have had the odd glitch with class 10 cards, on the class 10 card they use a faster clock speed, which I've read can cause the occasional compatibilty issue, so best to play safe. I'm using some Samsung class6 cards and they are fine, not had any issues at all.
I'm actually thinking of getting another just to use as a security camera in the house, mounted discretely inside one of the front windows.
In conclusion then, what sets this camera apart from some others, as most have fairly decent video quality these days, although there are a few out there that do have poor video, this is not one of them, the video quality on this camera is very good and far better than I expected, sound is not bad either, but it's the fact it's a small discrete camera that sets it apart from many others.
The delivery time from E-Prance was not bad either, mine around in just 7days, and they seem to go the extra mile to assist, and also release updated firmware as and when it becomes available to them, I've also noticed they have some good feedback from many dashcam users in forums, which is why I ordered from them.
I really do like this camera, it's designed well, and importantly works well too... so it's a recommended vote from me.
