From a parent's perspective, this is a beautifully illustrated work with a classic feel to it. As such, it makes a lovely gift for new mums and dads to share with their little one.
My little girl, 15 months, enjoys reading this book very much and often reaches for it on the shelf. She enjoys looking at the pictures, and there are plenty for each letter, representing familiar animals and everyday objects. As such, it's proven great at helping her learn new words and, of course, those animal and vehicle noises!
The only problem for very young children is that, as this isn't a board book, you can't really let them look at it on their own. That said, I think the 'grown-up' paper pages constitute part of the appeal for my daughter.
If you like the illustrations but want something your child can enjoy independently, the Alain Grée 'My First...' board books are probably a better choice. As a read-together book though, I would unreservedly recommend this.
