An excellent read for those interested in the Outdoors.,
This review is from: Mountaineering: Training and Preparation (Outdoor Adventures): Training and Preperation (Paperback)
Having trekked in Europe, Africa and America I wish that I had read this book beforehand. The book is packed with information on all elements of mountaineering and the way that is presented makes the subject easy to apply to everything from a weekend away in the Lake District to a full blown expedition to the Himalayas.
Whilst elements of the book are very clearly aimed at those looking at this subject from an academic viewpoint, I found this book to have exactly the right tone to make it an interesting and compelling read and it is now my "go to" book for anything relating to walking and mountaineering. It is very easy to dip into and use as a reference text for anything involved in mountaineering, but it would clearly be useful for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.
It is clear that the authors and editing team are experts in the field and the first hand accounts of their own experiences really brings the subject home.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in mountaineering or trekking and I would specifically recommend that anyone who is going to altitude either on a charity trek or a more serious exepedition read Chapter Five on First Aid and Acclimatisation and Chapter Six on Training.
