This review is from: Southport Weekender Vol. 5 (Dimitri From Paris, Jazzie B) (Audio CD)
When I first got this album I was to be frank a little disappointed. I already have the previous Southport albums so I am guess I expected something in a similar vein. However having listened to this for the best part of a month I can tell you that it is fantastic. Whereas some of the other Southport mixes by Joey Negro, DJ Spen and Quentin Harris are quickly accessible, these two mixes simply take a little more time to sink in.
Kenny Dope's album covers a cross section of musical styles from broken beat to dubby instrumentals and classic vocal styles too. His mixing is top notch and the overall vibe is very upbeat - for anyone who has been to a Weekender his set would be ideal in the connoisseurs Corner.
Terry Hunter's set covers a more house and afro beat route which would be more at home in the powerhouse room. Again the mixing is great and the programming very slick. I didn't give this 5 stars because I personally didn't like the "Kenny Dope in The House you suckers" over dubs but this is a small criticism.
