What a shame!,
This review is from: The Family (Hardcover)
Poor old Puzo went out with a whimper rather than a bang with this one (albeit, it WAS completed by someone else). I say this as I have read all his other books and found them consistently excellent
Unfortunately this book reads like a history lesson rather than a story - the characters are well described but it's just a narrative cataloguing their actions. There is no depth in it and it certainly does not 'grab' you as do his other books.
Apparently this book was long in the writing, which I can believe as there is a wealth of historical fact contained therein and the research has obviously been very considerable; however his hard work could have been used to better effect with more of a 'story', rather than this drab tale of the awful Borgia family. All in all a rather feeble effort.
