1.0 out of 5 stars Not for the thinking soul, 17 Feb. 2014
By
This review is from: Wherever You Go, There You Are: Mindfulness meditation for everyday life (Paperback)
I read this book out of curiosity. If you are a Christian - I recommend John Main's book on meditation called 'Word Into Silence.' It is truly loving, wise and kind. This book contradicts itself - sometimes seeming to tell the person not to listen to their thoughts, not to be this or that. We are human and we are made of thoughts, feelings and beliefs. This is normal. The world is round and it takes all kinds but one of the beauties of the Western world (apart from democracy) is the Christian influence which at its heart is loving. Trust yourself, trust your thoughts (your mind) and have the saving faith you were given as a gift from God. No need for gurus and false prophets. The spirit in you is good.

Thank You oh All knowing One ..... blah blah blah ....

''which at it's heart is loving'' .... but , in reality and practice is all about money and control .

Typical of the Christian view to disregard all other views , how plain nasty of YOU to state that the 37 people who gave this book a 5 star review , are not ''thinking souls .
Disgraceful and shameful.

I am astonished that you are reviewing a book you clearly have not read thoroughly. The author does not tell you to disregard your thoughts, nor does he tell you to do this and that. Mindfulness is about giving attention to, lovingly, without judgement, how does this differ from TRUE christian tenets? Your agenda seems to be one of pushing your own religion and disrespecting the religions/belief systems of everyone else. How arrogant. In fact, how downright un christian of you!

This is not a review of the book and I doubt you read it out of curiosity because curiosity is strongly discouraged in the christian church.
