Amazing skill and quirky charm,

E11 is a really beautiful film.
Firstly, Dave MacLeod is quite obviously a really lovely bloke - cheerful, gentle, unpretentious - so that one just enjoys spending time 'in his company'.
Then, of course, the climbing skill is quite simply stunning, but rather than showing someone slickly dancing up a wall, this is the story of a project with all its set-backs, frustrations, fears, dangers and injuries.
And thirdly, the whole film is just so quirkily put together: there's the clever, funny, sometimes slighly narked wife who, with a few well-chosen words and glances, tells the other side of the climbing dream; there's the rapper supplying the soundtrack deadpanning it in the landscape, in one very funny bit surrounded by hyperactive urchins, who look like they just happened to be in the neighbourhood while filming went on and were recruited on the spot; and finally there are those funny little domestic interludes - MacLeod climbing along the door frames in his hallway, crawling out of bed late, bored at home on a filthy day, washing the blood of his leg after a bad fall - done in close-ups and funny angles. Made me smile, anyway!
If all this doesn't sound enough like "Serious Climbing Video", don't worry: in the Extras, there's another version (the 'Psyche' Edit) consisting of the Serious Climbing bits only (no narky wife or urchins) plus a number of impressive short climbing and bouldering films.
Definitely one to keep and treasure!
