Who Is Dr Belasco?,
This review is from: Paul Temple and Steve (Radio Collection) (Audio CD)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a remake of the original radio serial play, with the technical team trying to reproduce all the special effects that were used at the time.
I have to admit that I had never heard of Paul Temple, but after asking my mum and dad they both had heard of him and had listened to the plays when they were young. I knew that my late grandad would have listened to these as this was the type of thing he loved, along with many others over the years. Paul Temple is a crime writer and private detective, and the radio plays involving him ran from 1938 - 1968. When the first radio play was broadcast it was such a hit that a drove of letters arrived asking for more.
Paul Temple, and his wife Steve are asked by Sir Graham Forbes of Scotland Yard, a friend, to help track down the elusive Dr Belasco, an expert in organising crime. But who is Belasco? And why do dead bodies keep popping up?
It has to be admitted that this is formulaic, coincidences abound, the plot is convoluted and there are plenty of red-herrings. You just know that in each play in the serial there will be danger, adventure and murder. In all there are four discs here, each containing two episodes of about a half hour in duration. That means you get four hours here of some really great escapism that you will want to take your time over. Because I was sent this to review I have had two two hour long binges on this, but it would really be better to listen to it a little at a time, and extend your pleasure.
