Fantastic odyssey of one man billions of years to the future,
By A Customer
This review is from: World Below (Fantasy classics) (Paperback)
Not science fiction as it is usually known. A single man on a rescue mission to the far future encounters an Earth where humanity and all it has ever achieved has long disappeared. The length of a day is now many times longer as the Earth's revolutions are slowing. Life has moved on accordingly. He encounters a race of immortal amphibians who judge him to be the most base of savages, yet befriend and aid him. In his travels through the unearthly wilderness his moral fibre and every preconception of his society are tested to the limits and far beyond. Ingenuity, courage and the ability to adapt enable him to survive and become something more than any man of his time. He eventually comes to learn the secrets of the doomed race of giants who populate their libraries with living books. A tale of incredible vision and a deep romance with life itself.
