Excellent MMO. Can kick the crap out of WoW =D,
This review is from: Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (PC) (Video Game)
Mythic have made a stunning game, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is one of the best MMOs I have ever played, it beats the crap out of World of Warcraft because it does what WoW should've done in the first place.
Where to start, first of all, the gameplay, in WAR you have 6 races of Humans, Dwarves and High Elves for the forces of Order, and Chaos, Greenskins (Orcs and Goblins) and Dark Elves for the forces of Destruction, tied up in 4 tiers of zones, each with its own level caps where players can take part in RvR (The better, more beefed up version of PvP) campaigns, take part in Public Quests as well as Private quests, craft, loot, and do what usual MMOs do for around 40 levels. What WAR does differently is that it has other levelling systems such as the Renown system, where you gain "experience" to unlock extremely powerful loot from defeating enemy players in Open Realm vs Realm combat and scenarios (Instanced Realm vs Realm combat). Defeating enemy players will grant a generous amount of exp and Renown exp, however, you will gain further exp from The Tome of Knowledge for defeating a certain amount of players over the course of the entire game and unlock special achievements and titles for doing such feats as killing 100 Bright Wizards.
Which brings me to the next point, the most innovative part of WAR, The Tome of Knowledge itself. This books tracks EVERYTHING you as a player does, from the story of the warhammer world, to how many enemy Bright Wizards you have slain in RvR combat, as well as tracking your quests showing armor sets and so on. The Tome of Knowledge is GENIUS!
The next innovative thing about WAR is the Living Guild System. Everything you and your guild mates do, will give experience to the Guild itself, allowing for unlocks such as Standards, tactics, abilities, and access to Guild Pubs. Once again, GENIUS!
Next point, Graphics, THe Graphics in WAR are excellent, they run off the same engine as The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, so if you can run that just fine, you can definitely run WAR.
I'm only barely scratching the surface of this game, you have to play this for yourself and experience the Majesty and Glory this game has to offer right from when you create your first character
There are a few minor issues at this point in time as its very early days for WAR such as the usual server queues and at times you will Crash to the Desktop, but certainly don't judge or condemn the game for minor things that will be fixed with the continuous flow of patches, its an excellent work of gaming art and it certainly deserves a spot as the king of MMOs when it rips that title away from WoW >=D
