1.0 out of 5 stars Oh my God the shrugging!!!, 6 Oct. 2013
This review is from: Killing Floor (Jack Reacher, Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
Read this as I was intrigued by a seemingly popular series of books and thought I'd take a look to see what all the hoo-hah was about. What a mistake. I'm not going to reiterate all the views on the prose style and staccato sentences. I'm not going to talk about the ridiculous plot and under developed characters. I'm going to talk about the shrugging. There must be more shrugging in this book than any other book ever written. Everyone shrugs before talking. EVERYONE! On one page there can be three or four shrugs. Someone shrugs then talks and the response is a shrug, the other person shrugs back. Once you notice this trend you can't ignore it. It's maddening. It's like everyone is a sullen teenager and just shrugs as a means of communicating everything regardless of the situation. I know this is the first book in the series and for all I know the rest are much improved but I can't risk it. The shrugging may still be there in book two and I'll want to claw my eyes out.

Yes, I omitted the shrugging from my review, but noticed it throughout. Well done. Read mine, it's even worse than yours.
