I admire Les Powles immensley-to build your own boat and embark on a solo sail with 8 hours sailing experience and only 2 of them solo I can't decide if he is stupid or brave. His inexperience soon showed when he navigated himself to Brazil when he was aiming for Barbados-another hemisphere! As a non-sailor I found an awful lot of the terms he used such as jib, genoa and luffs meant nothing to me but I didn't think this hindered my enjoyment. I would say that I found the first voyage interesting but by the second and third things were becoming rather repetitive. The book is funny and the author has a lovely way of describing the relationship with his boat, he sees her as a real person with personality.
