Lens elements just fall apart + image quality test,
This review is from: Opteka .35x HD² Super Wide Angle Panoramic Macro Fisheye Lens for Canon EOS 1D, 5D, 6D, 7D, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, 60D, 100D, 300D, 350D, 400D, 450D, 500D, 550D, 600D, 700D, 1000D, 1100D & 1200D Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics)
It is unacceptable that when I take the lens out of the box, the fisheye just fall apart in my hands (luckly not the floor). All the inner lenses and metal rings just pull off (the macro part was ok). Without instructions I had to decide by myself the order and side of each glass elements to rebuild the thing.
Also it is made in China not it Japan as described.
About image quality I made some tests with 3 Canon lenses and Canon 550D at ISO 800 on Av priority. Focus point 1 at the center. Partial metering mode (Evaluative gave bad results with this adaptor). Auto-focus works much better with phase detection (viewfinder) than through contrast detection (live view).
Canon EF-S 18-55mm:
Best performance of the test (including all lenses) at f/8 between 30 and 45mm.
Not too bad at f/5.6 or f/11. Always heavy distortion and softness at the edges (5% of the image)
Canon EF 50mm 1.8 II:
Best at f/22 sharpest corner to corner (at f/8 or bigger aperture even the center was soft)
Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS:
Useless at any aperture at 55mm. Reaches the best at f/22 with 15% of the center focused and a "moving zoom effect" around it.
Not tested at other focal length.
Be careful! I think this lens adaptor may be too heavy for the fragile kit lens.
