Basic and conservative but a nice read,
This review is from: Before and After Graphics for Business (Paperback)
If this is the first book you're thinking of buying to help you with designing business documents, I thoroughly recommend it. It contains some good, solid principles that will stand you in good stead for designing pretty much anything; I've certainly seen many amateur business documents that would benefit from their creators reading this book.
But if you've already read a few books about design, or if you've been practising for a couple of years already, you are unlikely to learn anything new here; the styles presented are very "conservative America", so you are not going to find new inspiration with this book. Having said that, I managed to read it cover-to-cover in a day: it's well written with lots of pictures.
In summary, if you are starting your own business for the first time, don't have the money for a professional designer, and you have never designed a letterhead or business card before, buy the book; it will be useful. For anyone else, it will be less useful but still a nice read; buy it anyway!
