This review is from: Mums Know Best: The Hairy Bikers' Family Cookbook (Hardcover)
A friend and I both tried the Sticky date Cake recipe. Having spent on ingredients we were both disappointed to realize there is a miss print on this page. Our cakes were burnt through as the book gives a cooking time of 2 and a half hours. Checking on the web site showed it only needed 1 and 3 quarter hours. An expensive mistake. I only hope the rest of the book is more carefully proof read.

M. Kirkland says:
Is it possible you were using a fan assisted oven in which case your cooking time would be quite a bit less? As far as I know, all the recipes are MADE and checked before going near the publisher.

I agree with M Kirkland. When I bake my cakes in a fan assisted oven, it sometimes takes less than half the time. Sometimes the other alternative is reduce the temperature and you then get a longer cooking time.

I made the cake following the recipe from the internet and it was perfect! I agree that the timing is wrong in the book, and I use a conventional gas oven! I am a mum, and in this instance, I know best!

FirefoxUK says:
You meant to reduce the temperature on fan ovens by 20%. So if it says on recipe 180, then it needs to be reduced to 160.

I've just received this book today and they've obviously corrected the mistake as the timing now says 1 and 3 quarter hours.
