Sharp Decline after series 2,
This review is from: Starsky And Hutch: The Complete Collection [DVD] (DVD)
The first two series were as good as anything but concerns about the level of violence on the show including Paul Michale Glaser himself being worried about the "body count" led to a dramatic toning down of the story content after the second series with much more emphasis on the relationship between the two lead characters and more social awareness stories. Sadly for the series the that meant a massive fall in quality and from then on it was never the same. Series 4 was very lame apart from the three parter "targets without a badge" and it was wise to end the series at that point. The dvd gets an ok on the strength of the first two series

I totally agree with you on all points. For any cop series to be sucessful you have too have violence in it. Take the Sweeney, if the production company decided to take out the level of violence it would suffer in quality. Hence that never happen and we had the best cop show in Britain. I, as a child, loved S&H and both series one and two were brilliant. Then came the downfall. Both Paul and David wanted to get out of their contracts so the series suffered badly as time when on. They seem to dift apart ! Sad ! However the DVD set, it brought back memories !

And i agree with you IMO The Sweeney was the best cop show ever made whether it be the UK or US. Starsky And Hutch even though it is pretty dated now had some brilliant stories in the first two years. Ironically Even the ones that didnt have large amounts of violence in series one and two were on the whole good episodes. The trouble was once you had to have 22 episodes with no violence in a cop show based on action literary has nowhere to go and it got to the stage one of them was falling in love every week and it became very tiresome.

Don't forget"Starsky and Hutch" Manchild on the Streets from series 3 where a black man is shot by a rookie cop. I just watched the news and who would have guessed that in the Obama reign it is still happenning.
