Amazingly different, 4 Nov 2003
This was the first album that Ulver did which wasn't black metal, and the start of their metamorphasis into the band they are today - I was far from disappointed! The idea of music set around the texts of William Blakes Heaven & Hell sounded a tad lame to me initially, until I actually heard what they had done with it, and what they had done with their overall sound. Still utilising black metal melodies, but occasionally mixing it up with small amounts of dub and drum & bass in places (I usually hate this type of music, but not when done by Ulver!) without overkilling and ruining the sound and feel of the album. Basically, its a great experience to listen to. Check it out.
