Great but slightly dissapointing,
This review is from: Max Payne 3 (Xbox 360) (Video Game)
Max Payne 3 is a great game. It has a very rich story in it's single player mode with very realistic graohics and awesome cinematic shootouts. But that's pretty much it from the story mode. There might be excellent music during gunfights, detailed environments, many guns and on-vehicle shootuts but that isn't enough to change the fact that there isn't much apart from shooting and running here. You could argue that the first two games were just like this too, but they had a bit of a puzzle element in there and cutscenes in the style of a graphic novel. This game on the other hand swaps this cool addition with traditional video cutscenes. MP3 is also shorter than the first two games, with less levels. Another thing that's gone are melee weapons and usable grenades (though they are in multiplayer), as well as the ability to hold on to all the guns you have. So far you might think that this is a bad game, but that's no true. From what there is you get spectacular shootouts and an excellent story, even though a lot from before is gone.
There's also an arcade mode where you can try to get the highest score possible in a level or a timed mode where you start with one minute on the clock and kill enemies to increase the time you have left. Or you can play the story again and collect all the golden guns and find all the clues in the story. While these tasks might not be extremely fun, the rewards from completing these are truly worth it. Finally, there's a multiplayer mode. This lets you play in traditional deathmatch/team deathmatch games as well as new Gang Wars and Payne Killer. These are refreshing from the normal multiplayer you expect from modern games and require you to complete certain tasks in teams (e.g. Destroy the bombsite or capture the flag) or kill whoever is Max Payne/Raul Passos (Max Payne's partner in the story) respectively. The multiplayer is great, with lots of character customisation and Call of Duty style loadouts and items (perks), but does eventually get dull when you've seen everything. Luckily though there's going to be DLC to solve that.
Overall, this is a great game that is very fun though a little dissapointing in the single-player.
