5.0 out of 5 stars Mad for Ystad, 8 Feb 2010
This review is from: Wallander (Innan frosten / Byfånen / Bröderna /Mörkret ) (Before The Frost / The Village Idiot / Brothers / The Darkness) (DVD)
Bought this set and the rest of the Swedish series 1 direct from Sweden (for considerably less that this seller) after becoming totally hooked after this was shown on BBC4. This is without doubt exceptional television. There are not enough superlatives to use to explain just how good it is save to say that the acting is faultless, the interplay between Wallander and daughter,Wallander and colleagues and Linda Wallander and Stefan Lindman is great and the lack of silly trite stories(a'la Midsummer murders and that ilk) refreshing. You forget the subtitles after a few moments and become hooked by the cleverly crafted storylines. Storylines moreover which do not fail to pull punches covering many taboo subjects. A total joy.

I have been trying unsuccessfully to buy this from Sweden directly because it is now very expensive on Amazon.Would you mind saying where you found it. the only Wallander dvds i found didn't have English subtitles and my Swedish is practically non -existant. Thanks a lot . Katharine

Hello Katherine
I bought all three via E'Bay, a seller called 'DanSwede' (I think)- they were shipped direct from Sweden within 3 days of purchase and all do have English subtitles. I was really impressed with his service. He contacted me via E'mail and was very helpful (My Swedish is limited to what I have picked up from watching Wallander!)
If you check out there are various sellers on E'Bay-some in the USA (who I would avoid as they are more expensive and didn't give enough details) Hope this helps you
Regards
Mrs P

Could you please let me know if the transfer is 16: 9 anamorphic (instead of letterbox full frame), so that the subtitles can be read properly, while the picture fills the whole of the widescreen TV, and it is not necessary the use of zoom? I guess, to put it more clearly, my question is: can the film be watched widescreen filling the whole TV screen and the subtitles read without any problem? Thank you.

I have not experienced any problems with sub titles, able to read them ok.

Thank you for your help. So you watched it on a videscreen TV, the picture filling the whole screen? That is, the transfer is 16:9 anamorphic.
