This review is from: Killzone 2 - Platinum Edition (PS3) (Video Game)
I remember the first Killzone was meant to be a HALO killer. It wasn't. It was still an entertaining game. The sequel took an age to reach the market and we all expected great things. What we get is the PS3's answer to Gears of War. Not that this is a bad thing.
This time we are taking the fight to the Helghast, so off to their planet we go. An industrial wasteland awaits as you go through the motions of a straight forward first person shooter. Graphics are good, plenty of background details and coupled with the music, the whole experience is atmospheric. Controls are simple enough but training your sights on the fast moving 'higs' is a pain at times. You really miss the snap-too aiming from COD. It auto saves frequently. Rico is the only original member to return but you mix up your AI buddy through the game.
Overall, this game is good. There are loads of intense firefights and a plausible story, but it has its flaws. Most notable is the constant pausing of the game as it loads while you play. At first I though my PS3 was packing in. Sometimes it froze leading to reset. The bugs do ruin the experience somewhat.
Multiplayer is good. However, I am not so keen on sticking to the same map until all the different game styles have been played. I much prefer the COD approach where the level changes with each game.
You like shooters? You'll like this. Unless you have an aversion to shooting very human looking aliens.
