An excellet all round compilation with a few great suprises,
This review is from: Essential (Audio CD)
Despite the fact that this at first looks like just another compilation album, there were quite a few great suprises for me as i listened to it.
The Track listing might seem a little Run-O-the-Mill for ardent Oldfield fans but old classics and favorites are reprised with excitement and the occaisional remix. Noteably the is an outstanding work over of Tubular Bells II's "The Bell" with the initial MC on that album - Alan Rickman (the English Hollywood actor of Die Hard and Robin Hood Prince of Theives fame) returning the position to Viv Stanshall the original MC on Tubular Bells as a tribute to the master songster, lead singer of the Bonzo Do Da Dog Band and original "Ginger Geezer" who sadley died before this album was released. This of course was reprised seemlesly using digital technology and avoiding those old tin boxes (a Mike joke obvious to those who have ever read the sleeve of TB1).
On the whole the is a Master Compilation album that caters extremly well for those just getting into Mike and his Music as those who are avid collectors seeking new remixes and rarities.
