5.0 out of 5 stars Such an underrated group!, 3 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Midlife Crisis: The Very Best of Faith No More (Audio CD)
While I can understand the annoyance some fans have with the release of yet another 'Best of' album, for the price on here (currently £3.50 as of 3/1/14) it can't be beat. I ended up investing in two copies - one for myself and one for my friend who has yet to listen to the album. I already own a previous greatest hits album (that feature's Edge of the World, Anne's Song and We Care a Lot (live version)) and the 5 pack album set (where the Real Thing album has a fault causing the CD to switch off after the intro to Zombie Eaters!).
For my money this album is well worth it, as you get 39 excellent songs on two discs. Anyone new to FNM (I'm a recent convert - thanks to hearing the brilliant track Epic on a local rock radio) this is an essential purchase if you don't fancy trying the individual albums instead. My personal favourites being Stripsearch and Ashes to Ashes. This band is so immense it is difficult to really pigeonhole them in to a set genre of music, as literally they can play any sort of music. I admit to being more of a fan of the Mike Patton version rather than the Chuck Mosley version (As I dislike his style of singing), I still reckon there isn't a weak song to be found on this album. Patton is an amazingly versatile singer and the musicianship is excellent - the quality of the studio albums are brilliant.

In summary; even if heavy metal is not your usual genre and you happen to hear a track by FNM that piques your interest, give them a go - invest in this album and within no time you will be a convert, like me. I feel that as a group they really do not receive the recognition they deserve, with more praise being heaped upon Nirvana (and the personality of Kurt Cobain) and their influence to modern music than they possibly warrant (this is not a 'diss' of Nirvana by any means!). FNM played a diverse mix of music and had their own distinct and influential sound that predates many modern bands and has rarely, if ever, been bettered.
