This review is from: To Kill A Mockingbird [DVD] [1962] (DVD)
Got this to help my daughter with her GCSE English as she was struggling to remember who was who and the complicated/strange names of the protoganists in the book (e.g. Boo, Scout etc). We watched the film together and although the film doesn't completely cover all the content in the book, I think it really helped her understand the characters and themes. My DD complained about the film being in Black and White, but it hasn't been bettered.I was impressed by seeing this film again, it had been many, many years since I first saw it. I thought the child actors were great and Gregory Peck gives the performance of his life. The film has an atmospheric small town, claustrophobic menacing feel. It isn't a cheerful film - it is very sad and dark. |
