"Overkill" a compulsive read about the overfishing saga, tax payers money and much more,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Overkill!: The euphoric rush to industrialise Ireland's sea fisheries and its unravelling sequel (Paperback)
"OnerKill" provides a much needed insight into either the fear of speaking out and/or incompetency of State and EU agencies to carry out the very tasks they were set up to address regarding proper management of what should have been our sustainable natural fishery resources.
It documents the nightmare of a Semi State body completely out of control but with little or no comprehension of biological sustainable yields or resource management save in politics, polished self serving publishing, profit promotion of a few, all covered by facile PR.
The two very simple words used throughout are prime indicators of their mind set viz:- "Exploitation" of our fishery resources rather than "Utilisation"and "TAC" (Total allowable catch) rather than "MSY" (Maximum sustainable yield).
It is clear that the demise of our Fishery resources is the marine equivalent to that of our Banking crisis, including the rip off to the taxpayer. The apparent willingness/naivety of successive government ministers to accept such patently self serving information without question is a damning indictment of their fitness for office.
I have no hesitation in recommending this work to all concerned with the fishing industry in whatever role and in any jurisdiction, to all concerned with renewable natural resources and to the general public it makes compulsive reading.
In some circles the author is being called a whistle blower or much worse but to anyone with common sense and not afraid to face facts Eddie Fahy is a breath of fresh air.
