A Big Little life Making sense of the inevitable loss,

This review is from: A Big Little Life (Paperback)
Dean Koonts manages to articulate in his usual sensitive and detailed style the depth of emotion that losing a much loved and special dog elicits. What is really great about this book is that he doesn't just dwell on the loss, but instead celebrates the privileged relationship a guardian has with that once in a lifetime dog some of us are lucky enough to experience.
It helped me to make sense of the stew of feelings and emotions I experienced on the loss of my very special boy and made me realize that I was only grieving because I was missing the hell out of him. It made me reflect and say thank you instead of just feeling sad and bereft. It also makes you realize that what you had was still worth the exorbitant charge, to be paid in pain, that must be settled at the end.
Yes it is a bit rambling but I suspect that his writing was a form of catharsis for him and so I can only thank him for his talent in articulating his feelings and his courage for sharing it with others who suffer the same loss.
