A really lovely book. The woodcuts are beautiful as only Clare Leighton can make them and the interesting way the wook was written makes you want to get out and start your own 'Four Hedges'

H. Wilson says:
The illustrations in this book are wood engravings, a relief printmaking technique like wood cut, but different in that end grain wood is used as opposed to the plank of the wood and very fine tools are used as opposed to gouges and carving tools. Wood engraving has an altogether finer and more detailed quality than woodcut, both are great mediums but it really needs to be pointed out that they are very different techniques. I was recently given this and it's a lovely book, Clare Leighton was up there with the best of wood engravers both technically and in her use of subject matter.
Thanks, by a contempoary wood engraver!
