Lonely planet guides for children? This is the second we have acquired, because the previous one was so good (World Explorer).
This one is the Extreme Planet Guide and is bigger than a standard sized annual, more colourful with a mixture of photographs hand drawn illustrations and filled with information, all 190 pages of it and it also has a `Not for parents' stamp on the cover.
It is a quality embossed hardback book superbly illustrated with chapters such as, exploring schools in different countries, the extreme Oceans, climate, monsters of the deep, crazy contests, tallest buildings and strange place names. If you don't like spiders avoid page 134 and if you want to know the smelliest thing on earth head for page 119.
Did you know that there were places like `Elephant Butte' in New Mexico, `Nothing' in Arizona and `Boing Boing' in the New Territories in Australia? There's also place names I wouldn't dare publish in this review!
It is full of extreme and amazing facts that children will love, there's a real yuk factor at times, they will laugh maybe scream and they will be amazed.
A book like this will only encourage reading. My children will have to fight to get this book off me.
Another Lonely Planet Guide for children and it is excellent and without a doubt it would make a great present for any older child.
