Jack of all trades,
This review is from: Meguiar's Cleaner Wax (Automotive)
This is an all-in-one product which cleans your paintwork with a lightly abrasive polish, and then lays down a layer of wax to protect your vehicle. It is extremely easy to apply, and then buff off, and leaves an impressive finish. Indeed, on an older vehicle, you can produce quite a miraculous transformation with relatively little effort - simply by washing the car, drying it, and then using this product.
Having applied Meguiar's Cleaner Wax to a car, I washed it the following week. By the time it had been washed, there was no longer any beading of water droplets on the surface. This suggests to me that Cleaner Wax is not particularly durable.
There are certain situations where I think Meguiar's Cleaner Wax could prove a useful product. One would be if you want to spruce up a car prior to selling it. Another would be to quickly lift the appearance of a car, which you've offered to wash for a friend or relative. It might also be worth considering if you typically have a blitz on your car and then don't wash it again for many weeks (months?) In this case, you won't be degrading the wax by washing it!
If you use (or intend using) Meguiar's Cleaner Wax then I would offer certain suggestions. The first is that you consider using a gentle shampoo - such as Dodo Juice 'Born to be Mild' - which should be kinder to the wax. Alternatively (and, maybe, preferably) you might like to consider a combined wash and wax shampoo. Valet Pro's Poseidon Car Wash contains carnauba wax and is claimed to be able to produce beading on a previously unwaxed car. As such, it should add to any wax previously laid down by the Meguiar's Cleaner Wax. Another option would be to use an additional coat of wax over the Meguiar's Cleaner Wax - but this does seem to defeat the purpose of using an all-in-one product.
So, in summary, a product which can be applied quickly and easily, is very reasonably priced, and yields good results. However there is a big question mark over its durability. In my own case, I've just replaced my Meguiar's Cleaner Wax with Dodo Juice 'Need for Speed'. Although it is more expensive, I consider it to be a better product, and worth the additional expense.
