2.0 out of 5 stars Weak in comparison to the competition, 11 Jun 2011
This review is from: Gnomeo & Juliet [Blu-ray + DVD] (Blu-ray)
With two children under five I get to watch (almost) every new children's animated film that gets released. This one for me and my two daughters offered little to keep us occupied for 20, let alone 90 minutes as evidenced by the constant wandering off and unnecessary toilet breaks. I found the premise unfunny, the characters under-developed, and the humour intermittent. The voice-overs were good but the idea of gnomes being smashed to death I found a bit on the sinister side. In years to come few people will recall this lightweight production in a year (12 months) that have seen Toy Story 3, Shrek 3, Megamind, Despicable Me and Tangled which are an order of magnitude better.

Indeed - I don't even consider "Shrek 3" a true part of the francise. A bit like Terminator 4.

Personally, I found it very enjoyable, and so did my sons. Probably a bit too sophisticated for under fives, but then I wouldn't take under 5s to the cinema anyway, they're too difficult to keep quite at that age.
