Much better than the Prince2 mannual,

This review is from: Managing successful programmes (Office of Government Commerce) (Paperback)
I'm working through this book as part of my preparations for the MSP exams. I read the "For Successful Programme Management: Think MSP" introductory book first, and that really helped.
There's quite a change in thinking required between PRINCE2 and MSP and by taking time to read the "Think MSP" book, it enabled me to get over that particular hurdle. Then I set about the MSP manual to really get at the detail.
This manual is so much better written than the P2 equivalent. Even though the concepts are arguably more abstract at Programme Management level, this book makes things much clearer. It's less woolly, the language is easier to digest, there are Tips and Examples given and it hammers home who is responsible for what. The next P2 re-write would do well to take some of this on board.
What I would really like to see, however, is a single illustrative example taken through the process in each chapter. The manual goes a certain way towards this with a Sports Complex example, but then flits around with other examples. I would prefer to stick to a single Case Study and to work it through from start to finish, so that you see the Vision, Blueprint and Project Dossier (say) for the same Programme - then you get to see it go through each of the Flow stages. Maybe there's an idea for a separate book here?
There's a few misprints here and there and some of the diagrams are a bit naff, but other than that this is a good instructional manual. Essential reading for the exams and beyond.
