This review is from: The Illustrated Longitude: Illustrated Edition (Hardcover)
The whole concept of fixing longitudinal position by using a clock which could show the time of the home port to an unheard of accuracy, is told in easily understood terminology. The polotics of the day whereby the Longitude Board was packed with astronomical members who favoured the "celestial clock" method, by measuring the lunar phases also comes across well. Harrison, the hero, is depicted as jealous of his inventions and a perfectionist beyond the pale. I would recommend this book both for its scientific content and also as a good read of a massive problem for all mariners until solved by Harrison.
