This review is from: 0.1g to 1000g 1kg Mini Electronic Digital Weight Balance Pocket Scale (Electronics)
Bought with the intention of weighing small amounts of herbs and spices, I tested it by weighing a gold ring whose approximate weight I knew from another full-size digital scale that offers whole numbers only. For example, 2 or 3gm can cover a variety of weights. Although the scale reads to 0.1g, there is no statement or guarantee concerning its degree of accuracy. I had hoped for more accurate readings from this.
With the ring in place, I weighed it more than 12 times, each time removing and replacing it. I did not see the same reading twice and it wavered dramatically - sometimes not registering at all and then offering wildly different readings, no two were within 0.5g of each other. That is not what I had expected. An old spring-operated dietary mini-scales was by far the more consistent and probably more accurate!
There are other similar products that offer either a calibration weight or calibration mode but this provides neither. A professional quality product can cost close to £100, although acceptable accuracy and repeatability can be found at price levels more appropriate to the occasional user. I know that there are reliable digital micro-scales available but this is not one of them.
