1.0 out of 5 stars Worked for a very short while, 30 Mar. 2010

This review is from: Philips Wake-Up Light HF3475/01 With Radio Alarm - White (Personal Care)
Amazon and the Post Office were first class (pardon the pun) with delivery and soon I had set-up the light. It's a fairly large white monolith sat on the bedside table, but I forgave it's space-hogging dimensions for the health benefits.

The unit was great and for the first week, I felt refreshed and wide awake when the alarm sound went off (gentle chimes). The increasing intensity of the light, raising 30 minutes before the alarm woke me only on the first use, but then I got used to the sunrise light.

Everything was fine until week 2!

The light began to flicker whilst I was using it to read at night. Then after a few days, the light doesn't come on at all in the mornings. The most worrying was the night when it woke me up frazzling, flashing and making a horrible noise which resulted in it being quickly unplugged and placed in the kitchen sink.

Needless to say, it's now on it's way back to Amazon and I'll invest the extra cash in a Lumie to see if that's any better. Overall a disappointment and why do manufactures still fit analogue radios into equipment when the country will be going digital in the next 5 years.

I'm reading this with interest after purchasing the alarm lamp 8 months ago as a gift for my husband. Up until last weekend it worked perfectly and we loved it - and then late one night we switched it off, were just dropping off to sleep and the trouble started! There was a strange glow, followed by flashing and buzzing, and then an unpleasant smell of overheating! Quite concerning really! We were glad that we were awake enough to deal with it (by quickly unplugging it!), and that we had been at home!
We tested the lamp in other sockets and checked the user guide for any useful tips that may highlight a simple issue, but to no avail. Sadly the lamp is being returned to Amazon as soon as possible and I will be sourcing an alternative product.
