5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent in many levels, 28 Oct. 2010
This review is from: Designing Sound (Hardcover)
Andy Farnell's approach to sound design is very detailed and complete, and this book grabs you from the first page. The focus is in conceptualizing and programming sounds through a procedural approach, always thinking about the physical basis for their creation. The whole (extended) introduction is a very interesting and refreshing view of acoustics, and I would recommend the book solely based on that, but it is in the 35 chapters that tackle specific sound projects that the book comes alive.
The programming is based on open source software pureData, which is a very accessible yet powerful visual language, that is truly helpful in understanding the step-by-step approach to detailed procedural audio creation.
A real must!

It would be interesting to know if this is a 'beginners guide' to Pure Data, or something more advanced.

Thanks.
