Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Pilgrim's Progress (Oxford World's Classics) (Kindle Edition)
Have just downloaded this after reading positive reviews. I bought this edition for the hyperlinks.
I am using the Kindle for PC app on my computer so my problems may be specific to that.
In the pre-amble it says "Refer to the Table of Contents to navigate through the material in this Oxford World's Classics ebook. Use the asterisks (*) throughout the text to access the hyperlinked Explanatory Notes".
However in "Notes on the text" it says "Asterisks in the text are those used in the first edition to refer the reader to some of the scriptural references in the margins. Daggers () are used to indicate the presence of Explanatory Notes provided at the end of the text."
It would seem that in this ebook edition the Asterisks are not hyperlinked but the daggers are.
Hence all the scriptural references (which are marked with an asterisk) cannot be followed within the ebook because none of the hyperlinks are actually present.
Many passages are marked with a dagger eg on the first page of the First Part this phrase appears "what shall I do?" but when I click on the dagger I get taken to notes on "Raggs ... burden" which is a page out. Some of these dagger hyperlinks work correctly but some, like this example, do not.
The "List of Illustrations" page would be more helpful if the references given had been hyperlinked.
The Glossary section at the end gives some page references which presumably apply to the printed book. eg "clogged burdened (p. 169)". They are of no help in the ebook edition but could easily have been replaced with hyperlinks instead.
So, all in all, I am extremely disappointed with this edition and cannot recommended it if you want to use the hyperlinks. If the hyperlinks are not important to you there are other, cheaper, editions available.
