This review is from: Free Again (Audio CD)
This is the second album I have bought of Robert Pete-the first was the re-release by Fat Possum of his 1970 album for Ahura Mazda. I was intrigued by that, the acoustic playing was a delight but the problem was getting used to that voice-hardly singing, one step removed from a holler. I thought Charlie Patton and Blind Lemon were bad enough to decipher (not that I ever truly have-yet!) This album is more of the same except I am used to the voice and again the guitar playing is tremendous. It has to be the passion in the man's voice now that he is out of Angola and free again-in the title track he says it all-he is going to party all night. Once you get hooked on this stuff, there is no stopping it-a lot of other music just pales into totally insignificant dross and drivel and can be seen for what it is-pure commercialism. This will never be that and so much the better.
