5.0 out of 5 stars Utter Brilliance!, 28 Oct. 2008
This review is from: The Katie Melua Collection (Audio CD)
With all that this outstanding artist has achieved it is difficult to believe that she still only 24!

This CD contains Katie's best known songs including, "Closest Thing to Crazy", and "Nine Million Bicycles" as well as a selection of the best of her first three albums. However, even if you have the other albums, the CD is worth buying for the three new tracks;

"Two Bare Feet" is a catchy jazzy number and "Somewhere in the Same Hotel" is laid back and soothing. However the best of the new tracks for me is. "Toy Collection", written by Katie herself with a slight folky and haunting sound to it which again shows her outstanding songwriting ability which is at least as good if not better than her manager Mike Batt.

The cherry on the top however is the 90 minute DVD of Katie's concert in Rotterdam recorded on her current world tour. Here, Katie demonstrates her natural live performing ability. She opens completely on her own with just a guitar and piano on stage for the first two numbers, flawlessly delivered before her top quality band makes it's entrance.

Katie's stage presence shines throughout. Her natural charm and warmth is evident in the way she efforflessly chats to the audience between numbers. Rather than merely performing the songs e

I also meant to say that she improvised quite brilliantly rather than merely performing the numbers as they appear on the CD. This album demonstrates the sheer artistry, talent and beauty of this accomplished young lady with her crystal clear beauty and natural charm

Hello:o) I found your review very helpful indeed, as I was deciding what to send as an Xmas present to my father in France.
He is a HUGE music fanatic for 'PROPER' music, and appreciates real talent AND WONDERFUL VOICES (like Katie Melua)! I think she is a wondeful talented young lady, with a God-given talent; i cannot put it into words, but some of her songs move me to tears; they touch my heart and soul :o)
Having spoken to hm just this morning 09:45 GMT+1, I discovered he had some of her earlier stuff, but hadn't got any of her latest stuff. You mentioned some of the tracks on there, and this was helpful, as I can guess what he has as her earlier stuff, and know what he hasn't got-which is this! He is especially looking forward to the live concert DVD with it. Thanks so much for helping me! Miss Joanna Finch, aka currusdulcis :O)

My favourite track on this collection is 'When you taught me how to dance' - the theme song from the wonderful film 'Miss Potter' sung in the movie to a musical box tune by none other than Ewan McGregor (who plays Beatrix Potter's book publisher). This track was not included on any of Katies original albums and hence is an extremely welcome addtion to this excellent collection.
